Trying to get out of my reading slump by taking a bunch of books out of the library. I’m kind of floored that this is being commonly taught in Grade 12 in Alberta. It’s such a complex, horrific, and yet ultimately sorrowfully hopeful text. A different experience, having already seen the film version, and I so wish I could see a staged version in original French and be able to understand it.
The three letters at the end and the way the play undoes binarism in such a difficult way, unpeeling grief from horror and hope from despair until they intermingled and become one. Beautiful and necessary.

wow, I have no words. back when she was a teen she gave birth to a baby boy who was taken from her, in her adult life (in prison) she was raped and got pregnant with twins. Neither of them knew? but the man who raped her was her son!!
