Age: 6-13
Assessment of Quality: The way the poems in the second half of the book answer the apology poems in the first half of the book make the reader pay attention to and re-read many of the poems.
Assessment of potential use: This book would be great to read as a class and emulate since all of the poetry in this book was written by a class of 6th grade students.
Assessment of appeal to children: Since most of the poetry in this book are written by children, the poems are highly relatable and digestible to children.

Genre: Poetry
Grade Level: 4-7
I enjoyed reading this book. It is in two parts, the first is apology poems in different styles of poems, and the second is forgiveness poems. This book would be great when teaching about poetry and also forgiving one another.

This is a great way to incorporate poetry in a language arts classroom. Students can really relate to the poetry in this book. This poems are real and genuine and funny and heartbreaking.

Heartbreaking, but a great look into how kids can use poetry in their own lives.

Great fictional poetry anthology. Used it to launch a class anthology for our poetry unit.

This was incredible!

A book of apology poems written by a sixth grade class.
Part 2 are the answers written back!

The poems were written to people, animals, objects.
The poems written to non-people received answers written by other students.

Gorgeous and sometimes heartbreaking.

This collection of poetry is written as if by a classroom full of kids. Mrs. Mertz's class read the poem "This is Just to Say" by William Carlos Williams and then decided to write their own "I'm sorry" poems. They collected the poems along with response poems and illustrations in this book. The first half of the book is apology poems and the second half is the response poems. The poems include apologies for digging into the fresh-baked brownies early, stealing donuts from the school office, turning in a friend who set off the fire alarms, making a rude remark about a teacher's outfit, and failing to do well on a school spelling bee (along with many others). My favorite thing is that you can choose to read all the apologies and then all the responses or you could flip back and forth and read apology, response, apology, response.

Bright, eye-catching illustrations round out this interesting book of poems. It's a mix of funny and sad. Perhaps it will inspire kids to write their own poems (of apology or anything else!). What a fun class project this would be, too...
