Man Scape is the fifth book in the On a Manhunt series, but it can be read as a standalone.

Daniel Pearson is the owner of Pearson Tree Service. He gets an irate voicemail from a young woman, Melly Harwood, accusing him of getting her pregnant. When he tries to find Melly, he’s told she’s at the veterinarian. Once he gets there, he confronts Melly and realizes that she isn’t the one who’s pregnant; her dog is the pregnant one. He also finds out that she was actually trying to reach his son.

Melly Harwood has always been known as the good girl who keeps to herself and doesn’t have any sort of scandals. People call her “little Melly Harwood” because of the way she carries herself. Yet, she’s not as innocent as they all think. She just doesn’t want people to think she’s anything like her mother.

Daniel Pearson is much older than Melly – he is 40 and she’s 24. He’s grumpy and broody, but he’s also very protective of Melly. He tries to deny his attraction to Melly, not only because of her age but also because she’s his son’s ex. But he can’t stay away from her.

Melly and Daniel had agreed to a fling since Daniel was going to leave at the end of the weekend, so there wasn’t much development to their relationship. It makes sense though, because it was just a fling. During that time, things between them were very dirty. And, despite them not really getting to know each other, they still shared some aspects of their lives with each other. Melly opened up to Daniel about why she was still a virgin at 24, and he didn’t just brush that off. He listened and understood, and he “rescued” her from a certain situation.

This was a fast-paced, low angst, small town romance with many hilarious moments. I loved seeing Daniel’s brothers give him sh*t and joke around. Clearly, they have a strong bond. I hope they each get stories.
