Darkhawk was my favorite character growing up. A bit of a mix of Spider-man (teenager in a family that has befallen some misfortune) meets Iron Man (has a suit of armor that gives him various abilities). I first ran into him in a few times when he guest starred in some issues of Amazing Spider-Man during some minor event or another. I think the first issue of his own title that I ever picked up was the final issue of this collection, where he runs across the Punisher. I'm not sure I would have liked him as much had I started at his beginning.

He starts off a bit darker than I remember. A lot of his early run seems to focus on what type of hero he should be. He debates the merits of heroes that catch criminals and turns them over to law enforcement only those same criminals to be back on the street in very little time verses crime fighters that use a more permanent solution. I think over time, with experience and encounters with several well known heroes that make guest appearances, he finds which side of the line he wants to be on. But if you're only experience is having read issues after he's made that call, it's a little jarring to see Spidey physically stopping him from killing some mobster.
