I also loved that it mentioned Canadian (Toronto!) stuff cause it’s stuff I recognize when most books are set in the “Southern 48”.
The only reasons this wasn’t 5 stars is because I thought Calla was a little selfish at times and that annoyed me. A lot of Jonah’s actions toward Calla were unjustified, especially in the beginning when he just assumed she was going to be a pain based on her Instagram pictures. Also, the hiding her makeup on her thing; sure, you can tell her she looks pretty without it but if she likes her makeup, let her wear it.
This book reminded me a bit of Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer but much better imo.
Graphic: Cursing, Death of parent, Grief, Cancer, and Sexual content
Moderate: Abandonment
Minor: Pregnancy and Vomit

it was funny, heartbreaking, romantic, and adventurous. quite literally a PERFECT book. I’m so sad to be finished reading it, i wish i could stay with these characters forever. (i’ll DEFINITELY be buying book two after this!)
i don’t know what to say in this review because i don’t want to spoil a single line of the book. it’s THAT good. you just have to read it. i will say though that i love Calla’s heart and her strength, and the relationships she builds with everyone in Alaska. I also was giggling OUT LOUD at the banter between Jonah and Calla, which I almost never do when I’m reading.
Absolutely give this book a shot, you won’t regret it.

I expected a simple romance plot, but it felt more like literary fiction - with so many great moments of family and kindness and people's pasts and presents aligning. I'm not big on planes either, but I'm a sucker for outdoor adventures and people stepping in for each other when times get rough. And there was plenty of that throughout! Also racoooons <3
Loved the ending so much that I'm not sure if I want to read the second book (..even though I am really curious what happens next... so I probably won't be able to help it haha)

Moderate: Vomit, Grief, and Terminal illness
