I am not Musk's biggest fan based some of his more recent affiliations and areas of research. I came across this book and thought I would read it to learn a bit more about him, and because I was curious about his earlier life and accomplishments. I expected a very biased representation, but was quite pleasantly surprised that the author revealed some less than savoury aspects of his character. I still got the impression the author held Musk in a largely positive light, but appeared to try and tell an honest story. I was interested to find that Musk's role in his earlier companies was not always what I had assumed. I always thought he was the one that did the hands on inventing; but it turns out he is just really good at finding people who can make what he is interested in a reality.
Nothing seems to be impossible to Elon Musk.
While he admits that many things may not happen in his lifetime, it seems as though he can't fully close the door on the possibility of almost anything.
Which blows my mind.
That his brain, not only works in a way that can see all realms of possibilities, but also starts formulating HOW to make it possible.

Я — величезний фанат Маска з літа-2013, коли я вперше побачив його виступ на TEDx. Ця людина так щиро і захоплено говорила про те, що вона робить у Tesla, SpaceX та SolarCity, що було просто неможливо не застрибнути на hype train під назвою «Ілон Маск».
Книга Венса дуже вдало потрапила в мої руки у той період, коли мені перестало вистачати інфи про Маска та його діяльність із соцмереж та спеціалізованих сайтів на кшталт The Verge. Автор зробив просто титанічну роботу — опитав понад триста людей, які працювали у компаніях Маска, або ж якимось іншим чином були до нього причетні.
Після двохсот інтерв'ю сам Маск нарешті звернув увагу на журналіста. Одним із перших його питань було: «Чи вважаєте ви мене навіженим?» Воно несло у собі глибокий сенс, адже пізніше стане зрозуміло, що Маск ділить усіх людей в своєму житті на дві категорії: тих, хто повністю поділяє його світогляд, та всіх інших.
Венсу вдалось потрапити у першу категорію і, в результаті, провести близько сорока годин у розмовах із Маском. Тоді він і вивів «Об'єднану теорію поля Маска»: всі напрями діяльності Маска — електромобілі, сонячні панелі та освоєння космосу — пов'язані між собою і доповнюють одна одну. Кінцева мета, хоч і трохи пафосна, але гідна великої людини, — врятувати людство, започаткувавши колонізацію інших планет. Для нього, звісно, важливо і зберегти земну екологію, але, як каже сам Ілон, «один глобальний катаклізм перекреслить всі наші досягнення».
Нещодавно на подкасті я почув жартівливу теорію про те, шо Маска послала на Землю розвинута інопланетна раса, аби збити нас із шляху знищення власного дому. Читаючи книгу Венса, у цю теорію не так і складно почати вірити. Тому, любі інопланетяни, якщо ви і правда так зробили, то давайте нам ще Масків, побільше ;)

Que o autor do livro começou de um ponto relativamente cético e terminou defendendo o Elon Musk contra quase tudo fala muito sobre a figura que ele representa. Um livro que saiu em um ótimo momento, quando a Tesla Motors deu a volta por cima e os lançamentos da SpaceX passaram a dar certo. Ótimo pra entender como o Musk é parecido ou diferente do Jobs. É uma excelente aula de futurologia e a diferença que faz alguém ser dirigido por motivações grandes e de longo prazo, em termos de como ele age e como recruta e cobra outros.

I read this when I was younger, and like everyone else, believed in Musk and his lofty goals. Sadly, as I matured, I learned that not only he's full of shit, but also that he's a sad excuse for a human being that hasn't aged mentally past 14 years of age.
The book itself is well written but it doesn't quite tell you the truth, and that's a shame. Elon grew on the shadow of bigger men and women and took all their accomplishments for himself, be it at Tesla, SpaceX or any other one of his companies, really.
His fall from grace is a sad truly sad sight.
