Such a fascinating book, beautifully written and covering many important, yet challenging topics. What also stands out is that there are no points or exclamation marks, as well as direct dialogue - luckily I got accustomed to it after 100 pages or so.
Also massive respect for finding an immaculate way of connecting so many stories and characters ( you’ll get the relationships after a while)!

4.5 stars, because the characters were a bit confusing, there were too many for me to follow, but i liked that they were all connected somehow.

I picked this up and when I got started I was like ‚bleh complicated stories about being human, just gimme sci-fi‘

However, by about a chapter through i couldn’t really stop. The characters are so vividly depicted it’s one of those books that - despite having a huge cast of protagonists - everyone feels very memorable and I was never wracking my brain trying to remember who was who. I liked that because when the circles of each character budge up against one another it gives you a little thrill to be seeing the character you just read, from the perspective of another. I also like how well the author portrays characters from the perspective of others; it brings so many of their flaws to light that you feel like you’re getting to know them all over again with fresh eyes. It was a great read and very expansive in its cast and the breadth of time covered. Can’t wait to pick up another book by Bernadine Evaristo.
