This book is available on Kindle Unlimited-it's over 1500 pages so I was happy to have it in a manageable format. The novel is set in India, during the 1950s, shortly after India's independence. I learned so much about India and was also happy to be able to look up hundreds of unfamiliar terms as I read. The story focuses on Lata Mehra, a 19-year-old college student, and her family, friends, and political, religious, and social events of that time.

Found it very meandering and unnecessarily long. A couple of the storylines are intriguing and emotionally engaging but most seem either incomplete or uninteresting
