I cheated and listened to the audiobook during my commute and with whisper sync could read where I left off in the audiobook. It was amazing. Loved the story and the characters.

I reread this for the Outlander readalong and it is still amazing. Jamie is still KING and I will not hear anything negative about him. I listened and read a physical copy of the book this time around. I am excited that this book will be the first book I have ever annotated. Reading this is making me want to watch the first season again.

I can't wait to discuss this in the live show on Jenn's channel (The Book Refuge).

Jamie Fraser will always remain in my top book boyfriend's list.

Ik heb me werkelijk door het boek moeten worstelen. Door de hoge scores die het boek oogst waren mijn verwachtingen relatief hoog. Misschien daardoor dat de teleurstelling des te groter was: ik vond dit echt geen goed boek. Neen, ik vond het zelfs slecht.
Op basis van de omschrijving had ik verwacht terecht te komen in een spannend, historisch verhaal vol avontuur.
In werkelijkheid doet dit boek echter meer aan als een romance.
Er wordt zoveel aandacht besteed aan de passie en liefde tussen Claire en Jamie dat het zogenaamde hoofdverhaal erin verdrinkt.
De auteur slaagde er ook niet in mij enige betrokkenheid of sympathie te laten voelen voor de personages. Ze voelden voor mij eerder 'onecht' aan.
Ook veel van de plotwendingen leken mij te onwaarschijnlijk om me te kunnen verliezen in het verhaal.
