This was entertaining but ultimately forgettable. Between this and the second imperial radch book, i find myself wondering if ann leckie really loves petty small society politics more than the operatic stakes of the 1st & 3rd books in her last trilogy. I prefer operatic stakes.

You don't need to have read the other books in the Imperial Radch series to appreciate this book, although doing so will help flesh out the universe a bit more. The series itself is bold and unique and I highly recommend it.
