This book takes us on a seasonal trip as witnessed in the house garden. 12 weeks for each season, with each week containing a small stories centred around the garden or reminiscing about the garden and its neighbourhood. The author strives to create a safe haven for wildlife while around her, her neighbours seem bend on destruction (either by design or ignorance). People facing similar frustrations or aiming to create a garden as this one will find recognition in these pages.

This intimate account of nature through the seasons made me sad for a world with less of it.

I read a lot of depressing stories about climate change and nature, so when I get to read something like The Comfort of Crows: A Backyard Year, I gobble it up. Renkl is an astute observer of nature, knowledgeable, and willing to risk the ire of her neighbors to protect the bugs, the birds, and the trees. Just as the seasons of the year present their own changes and challenges to the natural world, we encounter our own as we move through the seasons of our lives. Beautifully written.
