The Solace: This was a hilarious book - I mean, of course, it's Marco, but it had the feel of an I Love Lucy chaotic physical humor mixed with a spy mission. Our Animorphs are now dealing with the consequences of the last book's ending - both in their daily battles with the Yeerks and amongst each other. The ending was also wild. I never expected the ultimate - or absolute, lol - answer, but here we are.

The Dread: There was a lot of back-to-back action that just felt a bit over the top with how everything seemed to play out—just slightly too fantastical. And with it nonstop, it seemed to take away from the impact of each interaction because we were going going going and escalating the whole way through until the end. This being the last Marco book, I also wanted his character explored one previous time like all the other last character books. Will we ever hear from his stepmom again? Will that ever be resolved in how he feels about that just working itself out? Probably not at this point.

Overall, I wanted more out of my last one-on-one moment with Marco, but I enjoyed a good chunk of what Marco brings to the table - all his humor and seemingly effortless ways of resolving things, no matter how crazy the way.

I want to post this on all of these books but that will take too much time. As this series starts winding up to the conclusion they are a nearly perfect series I love all of them and the culmination of all the story threads is so much nostalgia and so fun I can't recommend them enough.

Sometimes finesse just doesn't work like you want. Sometimes your rolls are just bad and you have to muscle your way through.
This book brings in a bit of much needed levity, along with the usual fight to save the world.

A bit of a breather before everything goes to shit. The team decides they need to recruit the governor, and Jake gives the task to Marco, Tobias, and Ax. What ensues are some hijinks reminiscent of the filler books from a bit back. They end up having to kidnap the governor in a very cartoony sequence to get away from Controllers that has infiltrated the office. It ends on a rather bittersweet note. They were successful, sure, but that also means the situation has gotten that bad.
