This was an emotionally tense book that will stay with me for a very very long time. Amazing writing. Reasons it is not a 5⭐️:
1) Not all the characters were developed fully. We started with four but we kind of end up with two. 
2) Still conflicted as to whether or not it is ‘trauma porn’ and the objective of the writing

In the end, the story was really good. However, I don’t know if it was worth the trauma I endured reading it. The writing felt scattered, especially because it jumps around in time way too frequently. It took me longer to finish this book than any other book I’ve read: partly because it’s SOOO slow in the first half and partly because I had to take breaks to get through the especially traumatic parts. I would only recommend if you’re in the mood to sob for hours or if nothing can trigger you.

I was hooked for the first 3/4 of the book, cried towards the end because it brought up scenarios if I was in that position but didn’t really feel engaged at the end of the book. Wasn’t as deep for me as people said it was as I don’t personally face any mental illness but can see why it’s so deep.

In good conscience, I can’t tell anyone to read this. It literally took every content warning and blew it out of the water (in all the categories literally). At times it was incredibly hard to read because it was sickeningly dark. 

That said, I couldn’t put this down and I do think it was spectacular. The imagery in my head was of taffy - she took lives and stretched them to their most extremes. By putting the characters through most impossibly perfect things that can happen and the most impossibly horrific things that can happen, you’re left with emotion so deep that I don’t think I’ve ever had it from a book before. I very frequently questioned what the hell is wrong with her to do some of this to characters and I sobbed. But I had to think that it had to be balanced with the impossibility of the extreme positives, too. 

I get why everyone warned me. And it’s LONG. But I’m glad I read it.
