While the premise of this book is interesting as a fictionalized version of Meghan & Harry’s love story, the execution is pretty bad. I saw another review say it read like a rough draft of a novel and I couldn’t agree more.

While Duchess/Dani and Jameson are definitely in lust with each other, the author never made a love story believable between the two. Most of the book is just the two of them describing their physical attraction to each other alongside poorly written sex scenes that made me cringe. I couldn’t understand how they jumped from hating each other to being in love so fast!

The pacing of the story is also really strange. I was intrigued by Dani’s backstory. But by the end I was definitely “hate reading” the book. It feels like this was made as a “cash grab” to capitalize off of interest in Meghan & Harry to be honest.

Oh my gosh this book it was so cute and so different yet familiar because of current events. It was like Nicki Minaj and cardi b meets an African-American Southern Belle as our female main character and J our male main character is the horniest MMC I've read in a long time but he is adorable in it such a good guy. This book would have gotten a much higher rating if the ending didn't just fall flat on a cliffhanger! Literally just dropped off the page I'm so glad there's a second book coming cuz if not I would have been so upset I need that second book like ASAP highly recommend

As someone who found myself swooning over the romance of Meghan Markel and Prince Harry, I was very excited to get into this fun book! Dani who goes by Duchess is a popular rapper who just wants to be taken seriously and seen as more than a sex symbol. After being dragged into a public rival which in turn began to garner her bad press she ends up joining a charity concert by the British Royal Family. Jameson is the grandson of the Queen who has always shied away from royal life and has lived a quiet life as a professor at a college. But the concert is in the name of his grandfather who he was extremely close to so he’s gets roped into being the face of it all.

At first, Jameson is a prickly bear who is just rude and condescending to cover his attraction to Dani. But eventually, he admits his attraction and they become quite a cute pair. His attentiveness and planning of dates will make you swoon. There’s of course the barrier to their relationship with the royal family and their rules and her music career which I felt made the story seem even more authentic.

If you’re a fan of royal stories I would give this one a try! It has all the makings of a great read; dual POV, steamy love scenes, forced proximity, and forbidden romance.

American Royalty was a fun book.I think fans of the Royals would like this just as much as non fans.
I was looking for a book that was lighter, but had depth and I think author this did a great job of checking both boxes. Overall really great job creating a modern love story with royalty elements.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.
