Badass bitch is an understatement to describe Carmen Pyre. Can I say that this is by far, my favourite book for the CLS?

I thought Lyla was a tough cookie but holy cow, I wasn't ready for Car-freaking-Men!

This is not a standalone.

I am sooo mad that book 5 is not out yet .. it’s been like 5 years… Carmen’s story was really good.. Angel did not get a fair chance… I hope we get more of their story.

HIGHLY recommend you to read

Once I started this book, I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. This book made me go through a rollercoaster of emotions that I LOVED because Mia wrote this book in a way that made me feel as if I was in the book myself! This book is definitely in my Top 5 and I can't wait for more!

I was so excited to hear that Carmen was getting her own book and I was not disappointed! Carmen’s story took my on a tumultuous trip through my emotions. I was left wrung dry, but in the best way. I can’t wait for more!

this was good … this was actually really good… i found gavin and lyla boring but carmen ? is so interesting and honestly i loved what i saw from her in this book. very excited for the next book, i would love to see where she goes from here after feeling betrayed!

This book was very hard for me to get into. I was expecting a straightforward dark romance, and there was little romance developing in the first two hundred pages. Instead, this is a story of woman working through her grief following the death of her husband, and slowly, I mean slowly, developing feelings for another man. It takes a long time, so the focus isn't really on the male lead at all, and because of this it took me a long time to warm up to him.

(I do however, appreciate that Carmen didn't get over her husband's death in five seconds. She really grieved him for most of this book)

There was a slight love triangle in this story, but as the story progresses, it becomes pretty obvious who the right man for Carmen is. In fact, the other male love interest possesses all of her bad traits and kind of pulls her into risky situations that she doesn't need to get into. He's like her, if she were a man, and a bit more bloodthirsty. So it was interesting to see her reject him, realizing that that their crazy tendencies mixed together would drive each other insane, and not in a good way.

The male lead that she does end up choosing is steadier and more levelheaded than her, so I think they worked great together. But like I said, it takes awhile to get anywhere, so you have to really like Carmen and be invested in her personal journey toward happiness.

And I really grew to like her as the novel went on. She's interesting and sad and funny and assertive and kind of crazy. Maybe I couldn't always relate to her, but I always enjoyed reading about her.

I'm actually really excited for the next book, even though at first, as I mentioned, I wasn't really into the story. Awakened by Sin is emotional and inventive. All around, just a great read.

The cover is horrible, though.

This was an okay read. The story is interesting, bloody, gore-y, and sexy. But it’s also a bit much.
Too much back and forth.
In my opinion when you do a semi-triangle, and you make one person more likable than the other, but the heroine likes the less likable hero better it’s irritating. I know that some people may like the heroines favored hero better, but I just didn’t really. At first possibly, but then the other hero... fuckkkkkk. He’s everything. I think introducing him did a disservice to the first hero and heroine and the love they supposedly feel for each other.

If the second hero doesn’t end up being her end game, then hopefully he gets a heroine as hot and sassy.

Not sure if I’ll read the next in Carmen’s story, since I mostly skimmed this one. We shall see.

I really enjoyed it. I like the authors writing style. I was originally rooting for Angel but Marcus won me over. Carmen just doesn't need to get involved with another crime lord. I'm giving it 4 stars because if the ending. I was really annoyed I have to wait for another long time for the next part. I loved to see Lucious crazy ass reintroduced. Love him. I hope he gets with Alice.

I’ve been debating how to rate this book. Some pieces make me want to give it a 2, but then others a 4 and so I felt a 3 is a safe bet at this point. The heroine, Carmen, frustrated me at times. There was a lot of random make out sessions, prior to her and Marcus being exclusive. It annoyed me, because I couldn’t quite understand her. She’s obviously dealing with her grief in her own ways. I just at times thought it was too much. Yet at the same time, it’s supposed to be a darker book and so it probably fits the narrative. See, I told you that I have no clue how to rate this one!

The next issue that I’ve had is how they refer it to the “underworld”, in so many nonchalant conversations. I may be wrong, but I just can’t picture mafia-types saying that so often. It’s occurred in every book this series and I always felt it was odd. It makes me laugh every time it’s said and then I can’t take the book seriously and I lose the moment for that particular scene/chapter. Overall though, I still want to know what happens next and wouldn’t mind some books from other characters.
