this book centres around ineko whom suffers from a strange & rare ailment "somagnosia" or "body blindness". even though ineko is largely absent from the story, it follows a wide-ranging conversation between ineko's mother and ineko's fiance, kuno, as they wrestle with ineko's illness and its causes.

beautiful writing but somehow felt incomplete/lost in translation. there were so many conversations happening between ineko's mother and kuno - that keeps going to & fro with no solid conclusion. that explains when i got to find out much later after reading this that dandelions was yasunari kawabata's last and unfinished novel. and thats where i also found out with the news that the author died by suicide. rest in peace

should not have been published unfinished like this, though the book feels outdated nonetheless the lack of any closure to the story or themes hurt the quality of the book significantly

I had a lot of bones to pick with this because nothing really Happened besides two characters talking, and those sort of books usually aren't my kind of thing, but I genuinely couldn't put this down. It was interesting in a way I didn't expect and I ended up really attached to Ineko.
