I felt like Flynn's homage to a classic ghost story is unlike anything she's written before. I read it in thirty minutes and it left me wondering what really happened and who was really to blame. Though none of the characters are very likable, I enjoyed it!
Her writing gets you hooked immediately. Every sentence of the book was necessary for the story. I didn't like the story though, it was very anticlimactic, which I know is some people's thing but I don't care for it much. I prefers books with a final ending, even if it's bad.
Apparently, I read this 19 - 20 November 2019, but I do not remember at all! Nothing about this short story tickled my memory.
In 2019, I gave this 3 stars (I liked it), and I stand by that rating today (27 October 2024).

Such a good short story with a great sense of humor!
I actually enjoyed this one! I could see this being made into a full book

I think i ended up reading this book cover to cover in about an hour which is the quickest i’ve ever read a book, granted it is under 100 pages but still. Very entertaining past paced horror, just a good quick read.

I've never been a big fan of Gillian Flynn and wasn't expecting much from this book. Which I am glad I didn't.
We start with an unnamed female who gives hand-jobs for a living until she has to stop due to injury and has to become a "psychic". What really happens is that this unnamed women has been raised to be a con-artist by her mom, until unnamed women dropped out of high school and leaves to start conning on her own.
Once this women, becomes a "psychic" one of her clients needs her "help" due to her step-son being very mean and malicious to her and her son. As this unnamed women start's helping this client she realizes that something really is going on and that this women need's help from someone besides her or does she..This client's whole family is so messed up, and so is this unnamed women who in the end just goes along with what's happening and lets it start becoming her new con.

if this is just meant to be a short story, it's pretty good. if it's the start of something longer...idk if she could continue this for a full novel. kind of ended meh.
