I love stories set in the omegaverse and this a great addition to the genre. Even though this book has fantasy elements, this reads like your favorite contemporary romcom.

This is one of the best grumpy/sunshines I’ve read in a while. Mack and Noah complimented each other so well, the banter was delightful, and you can’t help rooting for them from the first page. I also loved that the side characters were also dynamic and added so much to the story. No filler characters here.

My only complaint is the period of transition from fake-to-real relationship with all the non-communication and internal dialogue of “how do I feel do I love her and should I tell her but I don’t know how she feels and this all so complicated” goes on for a bit too long. It’s saved by a third act breakup that is over quickly and in truly badass fashion.

Now to go buy “The Nanny” because I’m pretty sure I’ve found another favorite author.

After reading The Nanny, I picked this one up without reading the description, thinking from the cover that it was about a veterinarian. Narrator voice: it was not, in fact, about a veterinarian.

If you’re not interested in a paranormal shifter romance, there’s not a ton of wolf content.

Audiobook: The female narrator is the same as The Nanny, and you might recognize him from Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy.

Tropes:
alpha/omega, fated mates, fake dating, some mention of an age gap (but not weirdly so), workplace romance

Thank you NetGalley and PRH Audio for my review copies.

My 💭:

I enjoyed this book way better than “The Nanny”  which ended up being a DNF for me. This book was fun, had good banter and chemistry. Spice was good. I did like that the drama wasn’t too over the top and didn’t drag on for the reminder of the book. Firm believer simple communication can solve a lot of problems and glad that this book delivered in that area. I do hope we get more books in this universe as I’m a big fan of shifter books.

Audiobook 💭:

I did switch back and forth between the audio and it was a great production. Joe Arden can do NO wrong and always knocks it out of the park. Summers is a new to me narrator and she did a great job as well.

Lana’s second novel is definitely not as strong as The Nanny. This one offered up some great spicy scenes like her first book but otherwise it fell flat for me. I didn’t feel like Mackenzie and Noah’s connection and bond was much beyond their hormones. I needed to see their emotional connection more fleshed out. The shifter aspect of the book didn’t seem to add much to the story and relationship. I felt like this book couldn’t decide if it wanted to be paranormal or not. Also, the background information wasn’t laid out early enough in the story. I still enjoyed the book but this one was not as exciting as I had hoped.
