It was an extension very much of the last 25% of the first book, but more extreme. I enjoyed a large part of it, but hated the ending as
it felt ridiculous that Mycroft, known for his ability to talk anyone into anything, was unable to persuade a child he'd raised to wait even 5 minutes.

If the first book in this series was spent painstakingly setting up the dominoes, describing each domino in excruciating detail, and telling you the entire history of board games, then the second book was dedicated to smashing those things down as fast as possible. This book is full of absolutely wild twists and bananas new directions for both the story and its universe. It also features the best horse chase I've read in a sci fi story. I am excited to read more, but first, I had better read The Iliad.
