I kind of expected the racism. And the classism. I didn’t expect the to be quite so bad. The way the end plays out is absurd. The killer was obvious, but I did not expect such a tediously detailed confession.

Because this book was written in the 1920s there are some unfortunate language choices towards Jewish folks.

That said, the handling of mental illness and specifically PTSD was surprisingly compassionate and gentle.

This book does not age well regarding rascist beliefs. The plot and mystery are solid though.
