The first Lord Peter Wimsey
There were a few too many words here for me, more dialogue than action, and I had a hard time with Lord Peter's public school accent, "What ho, old chap, what?" Especially when he was talking to someone else who spoke the same way. But the mystery was good, and I figured it out right before they they told us. I loved the inclusion of Lord Peter's wartime experiences and his shellshock, as it made him a much more complete and sympathetic character.

Pretty decent whodunnit in the vein of Sherlock Holmes etc (who is name checked in the book), with a good character drawn in Wimsey. He makes a compelling detective, and where the book succeeds it's because of him. The broad strokes of the mystery are apparent from the start, but the working it out and the fine details are worth the read. I'll probably try one or two others, but not the full series

Knocked a star off for the casual sprinkling of 1920s anti-Semitism throughout, but the characters, mystery, and turns of phrases were fun. I would definitely read more of them, if only for more Bunter.

Great premise of an interesting whodunit case, albeit kinda obvious halfway through the book. The writing and characterization are a bit awkward, but shows potential.

Clever if improbable solution. The first appearance of Lord Peter Wimsey.
