Well this one wasn’t for me and that is such a shame because the story is fantastic and I had high hopes. I knew it was open door but was hoping it was mostly skippable. However, the spice just takes over, is really peppered throughout the story and got annoying over time. I was listening on audio and I think it stands out more to me that way since it is harder to skim.

Content Notes: Descriptive open door throughout, strong language

SO GOOD. This book had me laughing, crying, and squirming in my seat! I loved the banter and pranks between the characters early in the book, but then it was so nice to see how their feelings evolve over the school year.

Do y'all remember the scene in the world-changing cinematic masterpiece Bratz (2007) when Yasmin bumps into Dylan and says "Watch where you're going! Are you blind?" and Dylan says, "No, but I'm deaf." That scene is the plot of this book. Not actually, but that's what I was thinking about when Willa found out that Ryder was "ignoring" her because he was deaf and couldn't actually hear what she was saying.

The thing that I'm beginning to adore so much about the Bergman Brothers series is the layers that each book has. The representation and adversities that each character has/faces make these books so much more than just silly little romance books. There's Ryder's Meningitis sickness that resulted in his deafness and anxiety-induced muteness and Willa dealing with her mom's cancer battle. This book made me sob. The ending with Willa's mom made my sob gut-wrenching sobs.

The tension between Willa and Ryder was also exquisite. Their smutty scenes were so fantastic. The fact that sound was almost used as foreplay between the two was just... chef's kiss.

I accidentally read this book second and I'm almost glad I did because Always Only You was a much stronger introduction to the series. This is a good introduction, but I think reading Always Only You made me want to continue on more because I became more invested in the series.
