Whimsical supernatural horror which moves from the Poe-sque macabre (Gold Teeth) to cosmic horror (The Mainz Psalter), classic James-ean ghost story and plain weird urbanomancy (The Shadowy Street - my personal favourite). Attention to environmental detail, subtle humour and a naturally flowing writing style reveal a magnificent pen of weird literature. An excellent first contact with Jean Ray, definitely looking forward to more of his work.
