Jonathan Sims creeps up on you. He lures you in with mystery and intrigue and by the time you realise what's happening, you can't put the book down. You can't look away. You want to know what comes next. You have to know. Just like his protagonists, you suddenly realise the point of no return lies behind you. So all you can do is keep going and hope you make it through the end.
Absolutely thrilling book! The stories come together beautifully at the end. The frequent POV shifts can be a little disorienting and the names confusing, but I think that only adds to the story: you get lost in Banyan Court in the same way its inhabitants do.
I really enjoyed this haunted house story, with its many-layered, interconnected stories and lives.
The ending came on quick after the slow dredge through the confusing lives of the many protagonists, but not in a way that felt unearned. The mystery was revealed, as much as mysteries can be revealed without being demystified, and the story concluded in the only way it could.
A book I will definitely read again!

Great for fans of The Magnus Archives. Listening to the audiobook felt like listening to a season of TMA: weird vibes, interwoven episodic story format, featuring some comfortingly familiar narration by Sims and an anti-billionaire message to boot - can’t beat that!
