I was very excited to read this comic, but as with Neil Gaiman's American Gods it wasn't what I've expected. Art is absolutely stunning, byt storyline isn't as good as I wish it'd be. So only 3 stars.

I feel like I missed “the something” that made everyone else like this graphic novel, which is a shame. The premise seemed super cool and the diversity was awesome, I just unfortunately couldn’t get into it. But I can definitely see why others rate this highly.

A dark fantasy/supernatural comic book series exploring themes of fandom, obsession, mortality, and the power that comes with fame.

The plot is pretty straightforward, once every 90 years, twelve out of hundreds of Gods from various cultures and religions worldwide choose to reincarnate into teenage mortal vessels. These reincarnated Gods have become as popular as pop stars, have millions of adoring fans, and use their abilities to perform on stage and for TV, amassing more believers.

The only disadvantage to the whole thing is that once they take over the bodies of the chosen mortals, they die after two years, killing the vessel and returning to the astral plane where they may choose to return 90 later if they want. The series explores the interaction between the Gods and the humans, and the nuances and moral complications of wether or not power and fame are worth a tragically short life span

Pretty interesting and creative premise, I couldn’t stop reading this book until I was done. The writing is very engaging but sometimes confusing, so many gods are referenced and it’s hard to understand their behavior, dialogue, and actions without knowing something about them before reading. The characters are layered and deep, the world building is also good nothing exceptional, but still something about the book and premise, story, and pacing made it impossible for me to stop reading even for a second which I liked

The Art is just phenomenal, beautiful characters, punchy and contrasty colors, and surprisingly good action. The characters are designed to look very realistic with extremely detailed and expressive faces and bodily features, it all works really well and complements the setting of the book. The colorful and prominent world of the Gods is perfectly brought to life by the art, which on its own is reason enough to read this book.

I’m reading in Trade, compendium to be exact, which helps with continuous reading so I’m already on the next volume and above. Strongly recommend the first volume

Can you read something and not understand what is happening? Well that is the Wicked + the Divine. You're thrown into this world where nothing is explained except all you do know is crazy stuff is happening. The premise is very interesting, and the art is incredible. However, the dialogue is all over the place and unclear. The main character has no personality and only has unexplained angst and a desire to help Luci (no you don't get to find out why). This could have been a great graphic novel series, but the execution of the story is an insult to the beautifully designed characters. Maybe things get fixed in volume 2, but I don't feel like it will.

Overall, great art but have no idea what is happening.

Wow wow wow wow wow

It's really good - not great but definitely really good. I love the concept, I love Luci and Laura and the Gods. I really wish there was more back story. I also wish the way that Laura gets to know the Gods was better.

SpoilerEven though crazy stuff happens in the graphic novel, the only thing I can't suspend my disbelief for is Laura just waking up, seeing Luci and then getting to meet the Gods. OK, yes, things just happen and yes, the Gods are obsessed with being adored but I really needed her to have like backstage passes or something other than pure luck that gets her to meet the Gods and in the right place to kick off the story.

I know that's minor and probably petty but hey, it's my review! Otherwise, the story is really good. I can't wait to learn more about the Gods and what their abilities are. The cliff hanger ending was incredibly enticing and I can't wait for the next volume to come out so I can find out what
SpoilerLuci transferred to Laura!!
Ooooooh, can't wait!

I cannot stress how much I love Wicdiv. Hands down my favorite modern era god/goddess story. It's got action, drama, mystery, and a largely gray scale moral set. The first issue will have you saying "what's next?" ...as will every issue after that.

3.5 stars

I've been wanting to start reading comics for a while now, but the whole Marvel/DC universe is too confusing for me and I never know where I'm supposed to begin. Why are there so many alternative worlds???

I'm glad I decided to pick this up instead.

The story is intriguing, very creative and there's a whole lot of diversity, which is great in any situation. The characters are fleshed out and I'm dying to know what's going to happen in vol. 2 after that ending. The artwork alone would make me want to keep read ingthis - it is STUNNING. Seriously.

If you're an avid comic reader, you don't want to miss out on this one. And if you're like me and wants to start reading comics, I honestly found this series a great one for begginers (it'll definitely set the bar high for all the other comics I plan on reading after I finish this series).

The art was gorgeous, the concept was cool. Lots of thoughtful details throughout. Some of the text/dialogue was hard to follow though.
