This story has left a lasting, unshakeable impression on me and I firmly recommend reading it.

This book was a re-read for me. My grade 7 teacher gave me this book to read and I really enjoyed it back then so I thought it was time to re-visit it and see if I still felt the same about it. I do. Definitely recommend this one.

The idea is good and if it was written by someone else it could be better, but the characcters were very boring and it didn't quite show how harsh slavery really is.

I had to read this book for my seventh grade English class and being a bratty pre-teen I was very much uninterested in history. I remember actually being interested in Julilly's story but I couldn't get past the feeling of being forced into learning about Canadian history. It was okay.

This book is an age appropriate way to introduce enslavement to younger children. However, I do think the author being white is part of why the book lacks nuance. There is no mention of Black people who were integral to the Underground Railway and this feels like a large omission.
