*sigh* Man I am so in love with this series!!

First read Nov. 10th 2008

I can't remember the last time I read a series that provided me with such a wonderful, indulgent, giddy reading experience. I have loved every minute of reading this series! These are technically YA fan but really they read like riveting political historical fiction. Mrs. Turner is a true storytelling master.

Why did I wait so long to read this series?

A gorgeous, epic novel that elegantly plays with perception and politics in a style that is rarely achieved. I would recommend this book to anyone for a quick, lush, lovely read.

I loved this book for the opportunity to see familiar characters through new eyes, from a new character's perspective. Looking forward to reading the next one!

wow, where has the years gone??? but hey, i am so insanely grateful that this series is getting republished in new editions, because more people deserve to know about how absolutely phenomenal these books are.
upon this reread, i was also just.... so giddy, laughing and giggling at the absolute wit and warmth of this book, the insane smarts in its story and characters. these books are so dear with me and if you want to read any fantasy books this year, then do yourself the favour of going with Megan Whalen Turner.
i will continue my reread of the series as the new editions will get released, so probably every 6 months or so!

You know those kind of series that once you start, you can't stop reading until you reach the end? That you get so invested in that reality starts to feel unreal, and you can't stop thinking of anything else but the world that became so familiar to you through words? It doesn't feel fair that words can have that much power, yet here i am: probably even more charmed and invested in this story and these characters than it would probably be... okay to be. I literally wailed about it over coffee this morning, literally because I couldn't contain how much I bloody loved this. I feel so happy knowing this is one of my favourite series, and I feel so scared of what future volumes hold for me....

I finished this one awhile ago. I loved it and was so happy because I really didn't like The Queen of Attolia, but now I might have to go back and reread both The Thief and The Queen of Attolia. After reading the third, I think I might end up liking the second a bit more. I'm not so sure that this book will stand as a read alone. If anyone has read this, or is planning to, but hasn't read the first two yet, I'd love to hear what you think of it as a stand alone. There is a whole subtleness to how Gen acts that readers familiar with the first two books get that I'm not sure will come through to a reader introduced to King of Attolia first
