A gorgeous little book about a ghost in New York city who finds herself thrown out of her quiet and comfortable but sad existence and forced to contend with forces far more powerful than herself. Seanan McGuire has a real talent for crafting characters that the reader can identify with and cares about.

Beautifully creepy and beautifully written but sometimes illogical and hard to follow.

Could be a little confusing at times, but it had super interesting world building. Would love to see more books or novellas in this world.

As always I loved Seanan Maguire's writing however I didn't connect to this story as much as I didn't get Wayward Children series. Perhaps it needed to be a longer book? I still enjoyed it but something was missing with this one for me.

I liked this one. Ghosts and ghosts and witches but working at a suicide prevention call center.

I’m usually a huge fan of Seanan McGuire, but this fell flat on so many levels for me. The plot itself was severely lacking in basically every aspect. I didn’t really know what was going on and the build up led to a very anticlimactic finale. Jenna as a character was also on I didn’t enjoy. It felt a bit too much like McGuire’s self-insert fanfiction at times, and some of her development felt like a very random tangent. Also the ghost magic never quite clicked for me despite it being explained more and more on every page. The one good thing was the writing itself, but everything else was a massive disappointment.

I really enjoyed this odd little book about ghosts and witches. It was definitely one of the more unique ghost books I've read. The writing is amazing, as it tends to be in her books. Whimsical but not over the top. The narrator is spot on as well. Just a really enjoyable quick read.
