Very engaging and thrilling read. It was fun to listen to the audiobook version, with references to snow, cold and freezing, in the hot summer of DC.

Okay, so this is the big one, right? The one that got a (terrible) movie adaptation and is probably the most popular book in the series. The one that brought a serial killer plot-line into the mix. And “The Snowman” is good, but I wasn’t in love with it.

There are some vivid new characters whose voices are pretty strongly written. There were the requisite number of twists (largely of the “wait! It’s not over!” variety) and a decent-enough antagonist. But Harry seemed somehow dimmer in this book, and the misogyny is apparent this time around. I’d also argue that one of Nesbo’s lesser talents lies in establishing setting, so a serial killer whose whole gig involves the Nordic winter doesn’t play to the author’s strengths. But it was a fun, distracting read for a dreary January.

it's not that it's a bad story or badly written, it's just not my type of book. i like these types of shows/movies, but it's hard for me to read them. i lose interest quickly. i finished the last 200 pages by skimming.

Picked this up without realizing it's quite a few books into a series. This didn't stop me from enjoying the read but did result in me having a little bit of confusion in places, in a way that I suspect would have been taken care of by reading these from the start rather than jumping in here at the middle.

Figured out who the killer was immediately

Predictable, but fun. I wanted to be more scared, but maybe I’m just barking up the wrong genre for thrills?
