Found it rather misogynistic and that spoilt it for me. There were also parts like the mold inspector where I was like really? It is a mystery so I finished it.

Get this so far away from me, I can't believe I finished it tbh 😂😂

There was such an interesting and potentially haunting premise with the with the snowmen here, and although the antagonist had kind of tropey motivations it could have been really good if it hadn't been clouded up with way too many erections and overall horseshit 🫠

Though it's the 7th in the Harry Hole series, Nesbo inserts telling bits of Harry's past so a reader new to the series is able to engage with the character. Harry is damaged and complex, often teetering on the edge of an alcoholic binge when the case eludes him, administrative politics frustrate him, and romantic entanglements confuse him. As Harry and his team (along with a new female detective) try to connect the disappearances and grisly murders of several women, the plot twists and turns multiple times, keeping readers guessing. Grisly descriptions of violence; graphic sexual content; some profanity. And you may never look at a smiling snowman the same way again.

This was a really great and gruesome crime fiction. The serial killer's MO was super original and I really loved the main detective. Unfortunately, I managed to figure out the killer's identity pretty early in the book, but it was still satisfying seeing all the pieces come together.

DNF. Couldn’t get into this one for some reason. Just gonna stop about a third of the way in.

The Harry Hole books were published in a certain order, then translated into English in another order and now gradually read by me in yet another order.

I like the fact that I don't need to religiously stick to a certain reading pattern and can pick the books up where I want and whenever I come across them. So far they have all - well, all two that I know - been self contained stories yet with tantalising hints as to what has come before or may come afterwards.

The Snowman as a mystery novel is not the greatest work. The moment the killer was introduced I knew straightaway who it was. And a couple of other surprise character developments were also quite apparent from an early point on, yet none of that diminished my reading pleasure.

I really dig Harry Hole as a character as well as all the supporting cast around him. Even with an obvious solution, the book lost none of its readability and has me looking forward to the next one (whichever one it may be) for my reading list.
