Please no more serial killers who blame their mothers. That's tripe.
I've been reading Jo Nesbo's books for the past few years, and once you stop giggling that the main character's name is Harry Hole, you fall into the dark place Nesbo writes about. Books about Hole aren't great for when you're feeling down, because they certainly won't pick you up. Each book becomes more and more personal, with crimes either pointed at Harry or more of Harry's life falling apart during the investigations. This is the seventh book, so it's pretty bleak stuff.
Still, former soccer player Nesbo's craft is tight and reads quickly. The book is long but never feels so, as Harry investigates the killings of women on the first day of snowfall. There's enjoyable forensic science, unfolding the factual clues for you, and the more pricking-thumbs intuition by Harry, equally critical to solving the crime.
I wouldn't jump in on this book... I'd recommend starting at least 4 books earlier in the series.

The Snowman by Jo Nesbø is a solid crime book. I like how the plot unravels and all the ups and downs in the investigation, the insight in killer mind and he ending. I only dislike one specific situation in book, but I don’t want to give any spoilers! I haven’t read all the previous books about Harry Hole, just the firs two, but I didn’t really feel that I was missing something. It could be as well stand alone book.
What I didn’t like is the way the author portraits female characters. Most of the time they are shallow and usually thinking about nothing other then sex. There were a few dialogues where I thought ‘OMG, only man could write that!’ But beside that it was very nice book.
I was hooked in the last 150 pages and couldn’t put it down. If you looking for a good crime story you can give it a shot!

Another excellent installment in the extremely engaging saga of Harry Hole. Complex, exciting and very entertaining.
The book was really good but the fact that I kind of knew who did it so early on was too big of a con.
