Maybe its because it has been a while since I read these books, but while it was a good mystery I didn't find it to be anything special, thus the middle of the road three stars.
Rizzoli and Isles are back, this time trying to catch the killer of a taxidermist, strung up and gutted much like a hunter would kill his prey. When they find more deaths of a similar nature, Rizzoli follows the trail to Africa, where one woman may be the key to find the killer.
This like many of the other books was a quick read for me, and I really enjoy that Gerritsen mixes in legends and myths to create a great story, but I had solved it early on, and parts of it were predictable in that it is repeated in many of her books. Sometimes I wanted to shake the characters because they were missing details that were vital.
The characters are really well developed as in previous novels, and I did enjoy how the story was gradually revealed, just enough to keep me turning pages.
All in all a great read if you love murder mysteries, but nothing groundbreaking.

I finished this book in like a day + five hours. How is that even possible? I got that feeling that only Tess could give me.
I've read so many reviews on this book, having been a lover of the previous Rizzoli and Isles novels, I wanted to make sure that this addition to the series would live up to my expectations. The reviews I've read kind of put me off, hence why I'm reading this 6 months AFTER it released.
I read a lot of "predictable" and "boring" comments & I just don't see HOW ! How could you predict that what happened happened? COME ON THERES NO WAY POSSIBLE FICJEJXJWKX The killer was like some super random character & I had an idea of who it could be & I was right and wrong at the same time because of, obviously, what transpired in the last 50 pages of the book. But how could it be predictable? I have no idea. I read by the first 40 pages people could tell who it was.... But the characters were barely introduced by then....
The way Tess writes really just pulls you in & I absolutely adored the way the story was broken between the Bush six years ago & current day Boston. It's like each new chapter would make me want to get back to the Bush chapters to see what happened there to tie in to the case. My mind was racing the book.
Also, so many comments about the show not being like the book - aye. It's a comedy, it's funny. TNT took some awesome female hardcore characters and picked qualities about them and then made the show all about an extreme exaggeration of those qualities. Maura is the perfect little smarty pants who makes no assumptions & Jane is a tough, sarcastic tom boy. You can say they aren't the same characters because they aren't. They're just BASED on the book characters. That said, I truly enjoy the show SO SO SO SO SO much. I'm a mystery novel and crime show junkie, and Rizzoli and Isles just did what no show had done before. They mixed the crime genre with the comedy genre. Just don't knock it only because its not like the books. ( if it was we'd only have 11 episodes, just sayin')
Anyway. UGH. This book was just so gooooooood.
I'm team Korsak ☺️
WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE COMING HOW CAN I WAIT ?!

The Rizzoli & Isles in the books, though quite different from the characters in the TV series, are masterfully draw and compelling. This adventure that spans decades as well as continents has surprising twists and turns. Again, a well researched thriller with interesting historical and scientific trivia to keep the nerd brain engaged while still providing enough tense action to keep the adrenalin fueled compulsive mystery reader up late. Great ride!
As a long time fan of Rizzoli and Isles, I enjoy the books that Tess Gerritsen writes using them as the characters. Not quite true to the TV series, but the interactions are essentially the same between the main characters. In this book they try to determine who killed a taxidermist and found correlations with other murders. The story did jump back and forth between the present-day investigation and the events of the back woods trip a group took to Botswana, of which all but one person perished. In the end everything was surprisingly tied up, and the links established.
This was another really good book in this series. I think I have one left till I'm caught up which makes me a bit sad. I love this series and I hope we get more Rizzoli and Isles in the future.
Review:
In the wild of Botswana, a safari group sets off into the bush for the trip of a lifetime. Within a week, all but one have fallen victim, not to a wild animal, but a hunter amongst them. She disappears into Africa, but cannot escape the anxiety or knowledge that her hunter may still be on her trail. A murder in Boston brings the predator to the attention of Detective Jane Rizzoli and Medical Examiner Maura Isles. After connecting several murders in areas of wilderness across the U.S. and a visit to Africa, a suspect comes into the crosshairs. Rizzoli and Isles plan to draw him out with a hunter’s irresistible bait: The one that got away.
Die Again takes off at a heart-racing pace and never lets up. Who wouldn’t have palpitations, finding a lion print in the dewy grass outside their tent? Never mind when your fellow travelers go missing or are found slaughtered? The characters are riveting and settings vivid, bringing the reader into safari camp with Millie, and inviting them along on the investigation with Det. Rizzoli and Dr. Isles. She introduces a first-person narrative for this book that amps up the tension as Millie attempts to avoid the hunter and escape in Africa in addition to the third-person viewpoints of Det. Rizzoli and Dr. Isles.
One of my biggest pet peeves when reading medical and/or crime stories is when the practitioner (or law enforcement officer) does something incorrect or blatantly make a bad decision. In previous books both Det. Rizzoli and Dr. Isles have had moments that left me thinking “Bad cop (or doctor)!” or “Come on, woman!” It was a relief that I found no such episodes in Die Again. There’s value to increasing the tension through the course of a story, which can easily be accomplished by a mistake or bad decision, but when it’s a repeated habit, I often won’t read more by that writer. A favorite T.V. show in my household suffered that fate this year after repeated unrealistic bad decisions by the female LEO lead.
This is a great book for the busy mom who enjoys a good medical thriller. It’s palpably suspenseful and difficult to put down. The “who-done-it” mystery is intricately woven with several possible suspects and culminates with a great final capture-and-arrest. Tess Gerritsen may have crafted my favorite Rizzoli & Isles story yet with this book. I was grateful to be on vacation when reading it so I had ample opportunity to stick my nose in the book. Even with little kids and bunches of family around, I finished it in a matter of days. Happy reading and happy trails! (And beware the stealthy hunter in the trees.)

Rizzoli & Isles are back! I received an ARC of this book from a Goodreads giveaway. Overall, I found it to be a quick, enjoyable read, on par with the other Rizzoli & Isles books. The last quarter of the book felt a bit rushed to me, but the twist ending made up for it. Worth the read!

It was a good audio book. And in general the book was quite thrilling.
I definitely didn't who it was until the end.
I do think it has some plot holes or stuff that just happens and then never gets talk about again.
