I really enjoyed the characters and how they chose each-other through a hard circumstance. There was an element of forgiveness, but also a clear understanding of boundaries.

If I can break this book into thirds, I would. So, the first third of this book is really good. Super interesting and sweet. I loved getting to know Sarah, Miles, and Jonah. I loved their interactions. You really see their personalities shine here.
About halfway through this book, it kinda lost me. I feel like the tone of this book really changed halfway through it, and I felt super disconnected. A LOT happens in the middle of the book to the very end, and it was hard to keep up with and stay connected to. I feel like the story could’ve gone differently or been better written in this part.
The ending was very much predictable. I know this book is from 2001, though, and it’s one of Nicholas Sparks’ first books.
I also listened to the audiobook rather than read the physical book, and I feel like I would’ve liked reading the physical book a lot better.
Overall not a bad read. 3/5 stars is what I give it. Not his best book, though. Although, I got to thinking when I was reading this book - I wonder how this book would be if it was adapted into a movie? One of my favorite Nicholas Sparks’ books that was adapted to a movie ended up being a terrible movie, but my favorite book of his. So, with how I felt about this book, I wonder if the movie would be better if there was one?
