I loved this. Now, if only we can have a book on Martin and Tess’s life. Kate’s life and Alice’s and Henry’s life! This felt real just like Want which I also really loved.

Tess is cold, uptight and very practical. Martin just does what Tess wants. Alice left her life in Brooklyn to move upstate because that’s what Henry wanted. She is no longer herself. No longer happy. Kate is trapped in her mom role and Josh is just your typical man who won’t help with anything and leaves everything to Kate because he is “working”. They all gather for Christmas for the first time since the three siblings’ mom had passed away. Helen was in control and guided them and told them what to do and when to do it. They’re kind of lost without (I wasn’t fan of Helen!). They were so many little details that felt so true and so real. Things I have thought about myself and seen too.

Looking forward for her next work! I can’t wait

I loved this story. It reminded me a bit of the movie, Family Stone. It also reminded me of the writing by Elizabeth Strout (one of my favorite authors). It was a quick read, perfect for Christmas time. A family celebrating their first Christmas without their matriarch, filling their new roles, trying to make it in this world. I loved it from the first page.

Thank you Harper Collins for this free e-read. I was really looking forward to this one and the story was very good, the author kept me intrigued. However, I wanted more. I wanted more chatter development, more details. I felt the end was rushed and that it needed an Epilogue to truly wrap up all of the storylines.

Confusing, too many characters, book skips from character to character making it difficult to follow. No real story

The story of a set of siblings and their families joining for their first holiday after the death of their mother, the anchor of the family. The question of what to do with the family house after their mother has died without a will highlights their conflicts and differing personalities in an authentic way.

3.5 for me.  Started out a bit slow but enjoyed the humanness of the story.  We never know what other people are dealing with emotionally- we all have a tendency to hide those parts we think are unacceptable to others.
