Let me start by saying this book will šŸ’” and make you šŸ„ŗ you get the back and fourth of the now and then so it pieces together the story of why things are the way they in the presentā€¦ from the beginning you know for sure 1 possibly 2 life altering events happen, so I was stressed out the whole time reading it šŸ˜° I am annoyed with Elliot and Macy thinking if only she could turn back time and avoid both heartbreaks, but then what would have become of her and Elliot if she didnā€™t see it with her own eyes, especially since he thought it was her? I was satisfied with the ending but my heart is gonna take some time ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ this has been on my TBR for a while and it was a heavy read for me, I know people say they love it and would go back through and read it again and again but nope this is a 1 and done for meā€¦ I donā€™t think I was made for the whole 2nd chance romance trope.

I liked it but its so similar to Every Summer After i couldnt look past it, and i liked that one more. I hated the way
the guy tried to belittle the fact he cheated to make her feel bad for not calling after that.
Tbh not their biggest fan but i do love a good childhood best friends to lovers romance.

IF I COULD GIVE THIS BOOK MORE STARS I WOULD. I really truly loved this book. I had no qualms about it whatsoever. And I have already read my favorite parts over about 15 times. Elliot was very, very sweet. Macy was such a great narrator and a wonderful head to live in (HOWEVER, IF WE COULD GET THIS BOOK FROM ELLIOTS POV, I WOULD DIE. IS THERE A WAY WE CAN LET CHRISTINA LAUREN KNOW THAT THAT BOOK IS NEEDED IN THE WORLD???). As someone who is very close to my mom, it really made me appreciate her more and just make me think about mothers and their roles in general.
I don't say this lightly, but this is now my favorite romance novel. It's okay if it's not yours, but it's mine.

I was REALLY enjoying this - it was like a better Every Summer After. The climb was beautiful, and tense, and threw me back into teenage hood. And then the big reveals felt both expected and not - but then everything got tied up too quickly.
I know it was inevitable for them to be together, but only a small handful of pages were dedicated to them and their relationship after Elliot learned he was a direct link to the death of her father. It was unsettling to say the least.
I think if more time had been spent on the resolution, I would have found it more believable and satisfying.

cheesy as ever and predictable. if i was 15 again i wouldā€™ve eaten this upā€¦ i still did eat it up but it doesnā€™t compare to other romances iā€™ve read. the authors are very descriptive and obviously the not-so-slow-burn romance is attractive but it lacks layers. the exes were randomly dropped from the storyline and the tragic ā€œplot twistā€ wasnā€™t as bad as the characters made it out to seem. i like the changing between times, the main characters were developed and described well.  overall it was a super easy read and i do admit that i loved that they were in love the whole book.

I LOVED the first two thirds of this novel. The two timelines, then and now, watching Macy and Elliot fall in love and come back together. They are so clearly drawn to eachother. I loved how all in he was.

I still enjoyed the rest but I personally don't like
when characters have PIV sex for the first time without a condom. Especially when these characters are teenagers. Yes she was on the pill. Would it have been so hard to have him carry one around just in case? Or for her to have some hidden somewhere? It hindered my enjoyment. Especially when they did it again in the present day storyline. Where was the conversation about it?
I also find his explanation of what happened 11 years ago to be odd and very unsettling. Seems like he was raped and yet it gets glossed over. The revelation about it is quickly followed by her dad's death and we dont return to it other than for Macy to say she isn'  mad about it.

This is angsty, full of pining and gets sad.

I found all the fascination with his zipper repetitive. It felt weird getting graphic sex scenes when they were 17.

It was annoying that they didnt communicate better as adults. I get that she's a busy paediatric resident at a hospital but surely they could've discussed the things that have kept them apart so long earlier. Especially somewhere that isn't his brother's wedding where there is both a potential audience and alcohol. But *drama*.

Overall I still really liked this book. It could've been a 5 star so I do leave it feeling a little disappointed.

I wasn't particularly fond of how the character was written. As an individual, it flowed how there was so much more to unpack. The intense avoidant detachment coming from it was insanely unhealthy for the sake of so-called friendship. Reading this has made me realize once again why the romance genres are so not my type of reading. Reeling away from processing grief, not facing reality, steering to convenience rather than actually living and not just merely passing by time, knowing someone just at arm's length, and settling for lessā€”it follows a concept of the character's journey towards her perception and life in general. As the experience she endowed was distraughting enough, it's good overall, but it was icky for some reason. It's a shame I had to skip some parts because it just wasn't it.
