It started off sweet and a potential 4.5-star book but gradually it became more explicit, which I didn’t really appreciate. Not every interaction has to lead to sex.

The spicy scenes with them as teenagers was just a bit odd and felt uncomfortable, especially when Macy was 3/4 months away from turning 18. Like how hard would it be to just wait a little bit in the storyline? Ruined the book for me personally, also just not a fan of main characters being separated for a long time- especially 11 years :(

I really don't know how to feel about this book if I'm honest.

In the beginning I was all here for it, I was really excited to get to know their story and this whole book that everybody loves. Have to admit that I'm feeling really disappointed.

I didn't feel the connection to the main characters AT ALL, I felt they were shallow and boring. I had to force myself not to dnf this book a million times.
The story had so much potential imo but ended up not being better than just okay.
I feel like in the "then" chapters it took them forever to get close and to finally tell each other that they're in love with each other but in the "now" chapters we barely got anything.

2.5 seems like a generous rating to me.

I’m not really a fan of the “childhood romance second chances” trope but I was vibing enough with this until the last 40 pages.
Like I’m sorry but is everyone just breezing past the obvious sexual assault scene? And the very clear way Elliott and Macy have never been able to properly heal from their traumas? I felt sick to my stomach reading the last few chapters.

I have mixed feelings… the dual timeline kept this book fast-paced, but I also had a strong desire just to be done with it. The relationships are unhealthy.
Descriptive teen sex without condoms and Elliot is obviously raped. I had an immediate ick that Macy moved in with Sean after the first night she slept with him. There is also a harmful reference to drug addiction - “At what point will Sean be forced to tell his perfect kid that her mom loved drugs more than she loved them?” - this is harmful and minimizing - addiction is a disease and the MC is a medical doctor, so this didn’t sit right with me. The story is predictable and I struggled to get into it at first, but it did get better.

I can’t say I didn’t enjoy this book, but I just don’t think it was meant for me either.
I do like the dynamic between Elliot and Macy, but it all felt a little predictable (doesn’t make it any less sweet).
I also listened to it as an audiobook and it was a little difficult to keep up with all the time skips back anf forth in this way, it’s probably much easier to keep up as you physically read it.
