This book captured my heart- I loved the dual timelines and all of the characters. This romance book was a mix of friends to lovers and second chances. I adored Macy’s dad, Duncan, and Elliot’s whole family. This book elicited all of the emotions, I was deeply invested and laughed and cried along with the characters. I enjoyed this one!!

I was REALLY enjoying this - it was like a better Every Summer After. The climb was beautiful, and tense, and threw me back into teenage hood. And then the big reveals felt both expected and not - but then everything got tied up too quickly.
I know it was inevitable for them to be together, but only a small handful of pages were dedicated to them and their relationship after Elliot learned he was a direct link to the death of her father. It was unsettling to say the least.
I think if more time had been spent on the resolution, I would have found it more believable and satisfying.

The quintessential friends to lovers trope, done very expertly for the most part. I loved both of the main characters and it was killing me to figure out what the big twist was. Somewhere around 3/4 it became obvious and the sadness I felt was deep, just waiting for the inevitable to happen. Honestly the only thing  bad i can say about this is a spoiler -
the scene at the wedding was infuriating. It left a horrible taste in my mouth, I had grown to love Elliot and for him to act like his drunken infidelity wasn’t “good enough” for her to decide to be done with him is INSANE. You pine over someone for 11 years, knowing you fucked up, and then when have her back and you guys try talk about it you rage about how her decision to leave effected YOU?! Come on bro. Take some responsibility. Her dad didn’t have to die for that. Side note, personally I think the dad dying story would’ve been more impactful if he had died on the way to see her after she forgot to call, but that has no impact in my rating. It’s just what I thought was going to happen and it would’ve been even easier for her to blame Elliot for what happened.

Love and Other words showcased one of the best love stories I have ever read. Elliot and Macey will latch onto your heartstrings like no character before! Any fans of Emily Henry will adore this novel!

This novel involves SA, which I think was handled poorly. The authors referred to it constantly as “cheating” and a “betrayal,” making it seem like Elliott’s fault, instead of recognizing the trauma he went through

I enjoyed the story overall however I didn’t like how
elliott was essentially sexually assaulted and it was brushed off and alluded that he cheated on macy instead
. I also didn’t like that there are nsfw scenes involving teens. The ending felt kinda rushed too. I did enjoy the characters and it was a nice book overall, just not a favorite because of my complaints.
