I think I’m just emotional this week but this book made me cry multiple times lol. Parent death always gets me😭 I was obsessed with the two main characters and at other times absolutely aggravated with them. Quick, easy read. Flew through this in 2 days😊

It was great until the last five chapters and then I hated him. I have a hard time believing you forgive that.

{problematic author}

tw: sexual assault

at first, the story was interesting enough to not make me want to start another book and forget about this one. this could’ve been a 2,75 or 3 star read if it wasn’t for the ending (and if the author wasn’t problematic).

this is a second chance romance, i’m not a fan of this trope so i don’t even how i managed to listen to the audiobook in the first place, but i wanted to know what had happened between elliot and macy that was so bad it led them to not say one word to each other in 11 years. i was more invested in the flashbacks than the present storyline which is… i don’t even know what to say. i just couldn’t connect with it? it bored me? the characters were sort of bland? i liked macy and elliot was a sweetheart but i felt like there was *something* missing.

anyway, the whole revelation was so problematic.
i absolutely despised the fact that the author was practically trying to sell what was an obvious rape situation as him cheating and betraying her. he was PASSED OUT DRUNK. he even admitted to being afraid of intimacy many years after the incident and it was just ignored which really pisses me off. no one ever addressed the fact that elliot was raped. they kept referring to it as a drunken «mistake». i mean, if being so drunk he thought it was *his girlfriend* having sex with him and not some other girl while literally passing out at some point can be considered a «making a mistake»… okay then!
once this twist was out, it was handled too quickly and i was left feeling like- HOLD ON- THAT’S IT? NO MORE TALKING ABOUT IT?

the more i think about this book the more it frustrates me. i wanted to like this. i really did, but it is what it is.
