This book was really lovely to read - It reminded me of many YA fantasies that I grew up loving when I was younger!

I really enjoyed the stakes that were pushed throughout the narrative, leading to an exciting reveal towards the end of the book (though, there are enough hints that the reader should be able to put some things together themselves before then).

Celaena as a character was engaging - I'm a sucker for strong ladies and she fits that bill. I struggled with a few of the decisions and concerns she has along the way, but am looking forward to her development as I continue reading the series.

I was warned before walking into this book that I should keep in mind this is Sarah J. Maas' first novel and it shows, I was pleasantly surprised that there were only a few moments where I was left scratching my head or having to overlook things. It wasn't 'tough to get through' as I was imagining, and it was genuinely a fun read. I struggled to put it down for the last 200 pages and ended up reading most of it in a day!

I'm super excited to see what the rest of the series has in store and to learn more about this world.
