Great World Building

The cover photo is intriguing and the plot is really very interesting. It was a short read and I enjoyed reading it. From the very first chapter it has been a very Gripping read. I could not put it down. There is lots of world building going on and the character developments and plot twists are really interesting to read.

There are multiple POVs in this book and I loved reading about the thoughts of each and every character. It was a fun-filled action-packed fantasy book which will make you feel light and cozy. The writing skills of the author are flawless and really impressed me. I will definitely recommend this book to fantasy lovers.

Wow I always enjoyed reading fantasy, but this is a whole other level! This quick read comes at you in a whole different world and multiple point of views. From the first sentence of the prologue you are hooked, and find yourself wanting to know what happens next!

The world building is a 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We get to see the kingdoms in the different POV however Ms. Hart describes with such detail that you can imagine what the place (castle/house) or kingdom truly looks like.

Character building 4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ With the multiple POV you would think it would be hard to learn about each one. However you would not be disappointed, we are given details about each one past and present. There are some side character, but we are also given details about them. Their are some characters that i found myself wanting to know more about but hopefully we will learn more in the upcoming books.

Story/Plot 4/5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ With the multiple POV one would think it would get confusing however; each chapter is labeled to allow you to know which character and their location. The plot is the same for each one, just how the get there is a different adventure. War is coming!

I'm sorry, this is a debut??!
Starting the Last of the Five series, Thrones of Prey introduces the reader to quite a few character POV's but it leaves you craving more from everyone. The fast world building had me spinning out of reality and diving head first into their kingdoms. With warring regions, deception, and secrets, this smaller introductory story is only a sprinkle of what I can assume is coming in the remaining books. Bravo! Can't wait to read more.

“I understand. I do, but what I want from you cannot be bought. Believe me, I’ve tried.” Now that’s how you start a book!

This was such a good quick read. It has a little bit of everything, it seems like, including magic, mystery, and some spice! There are numerous POVs, which is confusing at first, but as you progress, it works out and makes way more sense. The world building is amazing and draws you in from the first chapter. I'm so glad this is only the first book because I can't wait for the rest to find out what happens!

Why did this have the magic and POV mixed with the spice.. all of the different kingdoms and story development plus world-building was just so good. Everything was intertwined so well! I feel like I flew through this book because the drama and overall journey was that enticing!
I don’t feel like it ended on an actual cliffhanger, which was so nice, but I am definitely starting book two.. immediately!

I do want to thank Loren for reaching out to me and note that all opinions/thoughts above are my own!

I got this book this afternoon...THIS AFTERNOON!
I could not put this book down. I found myself distraught coming to the end. I wanted more.

The words put together were beautiful and had me intrigued!

The were a lot of different people introduced with different problems but it didn't feel like too much. If anything I felt for people and rooted for things I usually would not. I have found a lot of world-building books to be boring lately but this story was done so perfectly.

Now there are spicy parts that had me blushing. I ate that cake up and regret nothing. I am a simple woman that like a vocal man and none pity-me woman. It was served wonderfully!

Through and through it is only January and this is my favorite book this year. 5/5 stars well deserved and the spicy 5/5!

Thrones of Prey
The Last of the Five #1
Fantasy

⭐️⭐️

I was disappointed by this book. The synopsis made it sound intriguing but I think there's a lot that could be improved.

I usually like multiple POVs, but there were just too many and it made it hard to keep track of what was going on - there's 6 different POVs and actually 2 mystery POVs added in, even though they didn't really add much to the plot.

The plot itself was very focused on the world building and it felt like this book was just a filler for the next book. There wasn't any clear plot direction and by the end of the book, I didn't feel like it had progressed much. By the end, I didn't have a clear idea of how everything connected.

Even though there were a lot of characters, my favourite was Elysande. She has a smart mouth, has great banter and is feisty. I would've liked more from her POV or even just her story. Who is she? How did she become an assasin? Why? I feel like all of the characters need more development.

The end was really sudden and abrupt. Especially because the last 17% of the book is a preview of the next one.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? No
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

Looking at other reviews, I was excited to read this book. I really liked the concept and the writing style was ok, but I was very confused and found lots of typos . Each chapter kept jumping to a different person and the story just didn’t connect at all. For such a short story, way to many POVs. There also just wasn’t a climax to the story. I think by putting question marks for the person on the last chapter, the author tried to leave it on a cliffhanger, but since nothing really connected it just made me feel like half the book was missing. I think there is potential to the story and the writer has potential with their writing, but this just really fell short for me. It needed more world building so that we actually had an understanding of what, when, and where the story was taking place and it definitely needed more character building. They were just kind of there with no backstory to help the plot. And speaking of plot, it was kind of all over the place. I also found several typos that just pulled my out of the story. It was barely over 100 pages and felt more like an outline than a ready to be published book, really it needed a lot more. Honestly don’t think I will read the next book. 1.5 is what I would rate it. There is something there but it needed to be fleshed out a lot more.
