I was so excited to start reading and was so thoroughly disappointed. The collection read very juvenile and sort of cobbled together. The only redeeming story for me was "Daphne", which had a lilting quality to it that was quite nice; unfortunately some of the word choice was a bit put-upon and indulgent. Granted, I only made it through the first 4 stories before deciding to put it down. Other choices were calling my name.

I did enjoy the book, had a couple stories from authors i was familiar. As with any group of short stories some were really good and there is always that one or two you don't really care for this book was no exception.

Stunning book of Green Man tales from some of the best fantasy authors. Any anthology edited by Ellen Datlow or Terry Windling is guaranteed to be a beauty.

This is my second or third time reading this anthology all the way through, and maybe my next time I'll delve into my thoughts about every single one of the short stories contained within it for some fuller details. But for now, suffice it to say that this series by Ellen Datlow and Terri Windling is the reason why I started to reconnect with the whimsical, magical part of my soul again. If you're looking for a wild experience, a diversity of perspectives and characters and stories, then this is a great place to start. I love anthologies for precisely this reason, because they give you a chance to delve into a topic and come away with an understanding that is deeper than just a definition-- it's an exploration of the concept, of the myriad ways it manifests in the world and its beings, including in us. And it seems very much to me that we need this kind of reconnection to the earth and wild things, to the Green Man or Green People in all their forms. If you're looking for wild magic, for a place to connect to the green world, this is a great place to start.

Like many works that include multiple authors/tales I found some stories to be absolutely delightful and full of mirth, myth, and wonder. Other stories I found to have some moments of vulgarity. I would recommend this collection, but think it is a work that is great to read potentially a story a day because the stories are not connected to each other.
