It has been awhile since I had a physical book in my hands and the design on the spine for this one had caught my eye.

There’s something about this one that’s rather odd for me but then again, I’m not one to read regency and I gander that this may be the first of many. While the english and the culture/society wasn’t too difficult to digest (and actually it was fairly entertaining at one point), there was something about the setting came off as rather muted.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lord Blackthorns character and perhaps he was the saving grace of the novel for me. His childlike curiosity and rather eager approach to the world truly was a sight to behold. It was cute across the board. I also thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn. I tend to like books where the slow burn is so slow, you don’t realize the attraction until you actually stop to realize it. Blackthorn’s character had an interest in everything and it seemed it had high admiration for Effie. Truly loved it.

If you’re wondering why this doesn’t hold a high rating, I’d say the plot felt everywhere, or perhaps something that wasn’t so finely stitched. I could probably write out for you a very loose summary but even so the transitions from one scene to another felt like magic and not in a good way. It’s like you snapped and you were suddenly in a new situation. Instead of in awe and amused, you’re just bewildered and very much confused at your circumstances and how to move forward from it.

Cute read, somewhat easy to go through though you will find yourself nodding off for a few moments.

I really loved the first one of these by comparison, but this one was also quite fun. 3.5 stars.
