Too adorable! I enjoyed the setting where well-to-do women are politicians and men are magicians. Except Cassandra! She becomes the first official female magician until an accident makes her magic deadly. Then an evil elf lord tricks her into a promise that threatens the elf-human treaty. Lots of stakes and that's not even adding in Cassandra's ex-fiance, Wrexhall (WHO IS SO CUTE). I love that the story has characters of color and LGBT relationships, and they're treated normally within the society. Great setting, great story, fantastic chemistry between Cassandra and Wrexhall!

Regency fantasy where traditional gender roles are reversed.
This was fine; everything was rather mild. The plot and danger - mild. The romance, also mild.

I’d probably classify it as cosy fantasy.

I came for the intriguing setting, stayed because this novella hit every emotion. Definitely recommend!

Enjoyable novella set in an alternate world Regency England (Angland) where men are magicians and women are politicians. I like the diversity of the characters and the world building and characters are interesting. I feel like there is a logic gap in here somewhere in terms of the way actual gender power dynamics vs. the rules of the world that Burgis has created but I'm curious to read more in the series.
