It has a certain charm once you start imagining them as Bridgerton characters lmao
Being totally serious though, it's a short yet cute novella set in a magical version of England during what I imagine is a regency era. We got interesting worldbuilding with strict gender roles where women run the world while men take more creative approach and spend their time on magic. Our main character is a well established ex-magician woman(!) forced to attend a house party full of crème de la crème of the society marely four months after losing all her powers and breaking off engagement with another quite talented magician (who's also there!). We got politics, evil elves with unclear intentions, heartwarming interactions between family members and ex-lovers' banter all while trying to figure out who caused the neverstopping magical blizzard that could quite possibly lead to breaking the precious peace treaty.
The story is fast paced, things quickly escalate and lead to one another and I quite enjoyed reading it during Christmas season (especially that it also takes place in a winter setting). I didn't mind the mystery being there mostly for the sake of the romance as it was fun watching our main characters dispute but I hope to see more developed worldbuilding and plot in the next installment.

Graphic: Sexism
Moderate: Classism
Minor: Blood, Vomit, Grief, Alcohol, War
The writing immediately irritated me and the inner voice of the main character was even more so. She was constantly narrating without providing the details required to understand the information. Maybe this gets better but I'll stick with the library sample.
