Deleted by Ruth Mitchell was a dystopian chase that kept me on the edge of my seat, guessing as to what was going to happen.

4/5 stars

In the new future, everyone is equipped with a pair of glasses named Spex. These are essentially glasses that act like your phone only better. When you come in contact with someone the Spex will tell you all the information you need to know about them, record memories, send messages for you, and send out reminders. Lucy doesn’t believe in wearing Spex and relies solely on journal entries for her memories. It may just cost her everything..

I loved Lucy. Lucy was a spitfire of a main character who didn’t take crap from anyone, and I really appreciated that about her. Marco was a great love interest and one of the smarter people of the group. I can’t go into too much details about the characters without giving the plot away, but every character was very complex and well thought out.

This book felt like a dystopian thriller, which I thought was a new take of such a huge genre. It was interesting to read one where you were constantly looking over your shoulder. The writing was very easy to follow, the pages and formatting were beautiful.

I really liked this book. If you like dystopians, this is definitely one to pick up. It’s different from everything I’ve read in the past.

In a future world, people wear Spex. They record memories. What will happen if someone out there guessed how to hack into and erase those memories? What would you do with that power?

Lucy meets Marco and they fall for each other pretty fast. Nick has been watching Lucy and is obsessed with her. He starts erasing her memories and people that she is close to. Can Lucy and Marco and their circle of friends/family find and stop him while trying to remember everything about each other?

I don't know if I'd want certain memories erased (if they made me a better person) but there are definitely some that would be cool to forget (stupid exes and little mistakes, things said).

This is a clean YA novel and it's very riveting. I just heard from the author herself that there will be more in this world!

The February prompt for #theunreadshelfproject2020 was a book that was gifted to you. @literally.ruth.mitchell was kind enough to send me a copy of her book! One thing I’ve been nervous about with bookstagram is getting gifted books or ARCs and then not liking the book. Because more than anything I want this page to be 1) filled with books that I genuinely love and 2) filled with my honest opinions about books. I don’t want anything to change that.
So let me be clear when I say that I genuinely liked this book! I loved how thought provoking and imaginative it was. It kept me guessing! If you like thinking about the role technology and memories play in our lives, or if you enjoy a thrilling adventure with a love story, this book is for you.
Ruth, thanks for writing a really cool book and then sending it to me. It was a great experience all around :)

Deleted is the first book I have read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am glad to have come across it. This is one of the most amazing books I have read this year. It made you think so much, and wonder, because something like this could really happen in the future. It wasn't so futuristic that its sci-fi, but technology you can actually envision. The book focuses around two pieces of technology- that is like wearing a smart phone in your sunglasses, and a mind reader. You can talk to the phone and it will answer and follow your commands. It has apps that can translate in real time, tell you someone's name with a brief biography, or look something up for you. But with great power comes great temptations and risks. Someone has learned to mind hack, altering and erasing memories. To wake up one day and have your boyfriend or girl friend be a complete stranger. This happens to Lucy and Marco, and they must work together (as strangers) to try to stop it from happening again and again. Highly recommend this book. Not my normal genre, but so happy to have taken the chance on it.

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a fantastic romance/mystery novel set in the not to distant future. In a world where technology is everywhere Lucy refuses to conform to the societal norm and refuses to let technology rule her life. Everyone is Lucy’s knows relies on the technology known as “Spexs” which record your whole life, sounds perfect until Lucy discovers that this technology can be used for more nefarious purposes. After Lucy and her boyfriend stumble across someone they shouldn’t while investigating memories, Lucy wakes to find her whole life is gone, and she is being hunted by a formidable foe. I would recommend this book to lovers of this genre. As someone who is addicted to technology, it definitely made me think of the future.

4 Stars!!!!

This is the first book by this author I have read and I was not let down. I only read this type of book every so often as I am more into romance but I like to have a bit of a break. This was a refreshing read. The author has a very unique plot and the characters really jump off of the pages.

I must admit that the whole idea of one's memories being deleted is quite a scary thought. I really felt as though I was in the midst of the action and right there beside the characters. I really could relate with Lucy and even Karen. I like how the author filled the book with intrigue and action. I would like to read more by this author in the future.

This is outstanding! It’s a suspenseful thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat and Turing pages late into the night. The flow and way the story was told made it easy to follow along. The story is so different that it intrigued me. Futuristic and not all at the same time. The ending was a shock! Not what I expected to happen at all. But in a way so perfect. The characters are realistic and I cared and wondered about each of them. Nick, Marco and Lucy are smart. Like impressively smart. Each of the secondary characters were excellent. They each played their parts perfectly. Not too much or too little.

I was a little confused at first getting the story set up. BUT HANG IN THERE! Your socks will be blown off! This is a first time author for me. I loved this and will be recommending to others as well as keeping any eye on this author.

Ruth Mitchell is a new author to me. I could not have picked a better story to start reading her books. This is a YA science fiction story with a twist of mystery mixed in. The characters are complex and interesting. The plotline is engaging and I found myself turning the pages quickly to see what is coming next. We are introduced to Lucy. Lucy loves everything old. This is interesting since she is a mind-hacker. She did not realize that her sister was a mind-hacker. There is much more for Lucy to learn. Throughout this story, you follow Lucy. You learn what she can do. What will Lucy do now she knows she is a mind-hacker? Can Lucy find whom she is looking for to save lives so their lives are rewritten?

This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. This is a young adult science fiction story that has a little twist of mystery to it. This is a well developed story that is engaging and keeps me turning pages. The characters made the story feel realistic. Lucy has learned to be a mindhack. The problem is she deletes everyone’s minds including her boyfriends. Now there is a mindhacker who is after her but he does this for profit so it up the stakes some. Will he find Lucy and delete her memories? This is a really great story that has some twists and turns you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

Deleted by Ruth Mitchell is a fantastic futuristic YA sci-fi story that whisks us to a possible future and gives us glimpse of what could be. There we meet Lucy and Marco, and get swept up on an adventure where tech addiction is gripping the planet, and how she discovers that it is now possible to delete another person’s memory, and rewrite their history. She ends up in a cat and mouse game in a race against time, and memory- to outwit and outplay a memory hacker who has her in his sights. Who will win out in the end? This is well worth the read to find out.
Even though this is a Young Adult novel, it can be enjoyed by all ages from young teens through to the vintage years. It has a bit of a techno-thriller feel to it, that is full of mystery, drama, romance, danger, humour, and superb world building. It is a thought-provoking, highly imaginative, and wonderfully original read.
Ruth Mitchell paints a fascinating, and entirely plausible future picture that intrigued me from start to finish. I read it in one sitting, as I didn’t want to put it down. There were times that the story was a little predictable, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story- and there were enough twists and dramatic developments to keep me turning he page to find out what would happen next.
Deleted is my first read by Ruth Mitchell, and I am happy to say that it definitely won’t be the last! This appears to be her debut novel, so I am looking forward to seeing what else she can/will do.
Looking forward to more!

Thank you, Ruth Mitchell!
