Didn’t really like side A but side B took me by surprise, made it 3 stars instead of 2!

The remixes were definitely my favourite, which surprised me, as when I first saw the technique I shied away from it. I enjoyed the feeling of hope and love in many of these poems.

Not a poetry reader, but challenging myself to read some this year... As I don't really have much comparison, I'll leave it without a star rating and come back to it after I've read some more

I think this is sitting more at a 3.5 stars for me. I really enjoyed the majority of the poetry in this. I like the topics she covers and the way she covers them. There are quite a few more prose-heavy poetry, and that's where it started to be very hit-or-miss for me. Some of them I liked, others I didn't.

I think the Side A/Side B idea is brilliant, and all of the blackout poetry in Side B was top-notch. Definitely check this out if you've been thinking about it.

(P.S. I have no idea how to review poetry??? Like, I related to them. They were pleasant to read. What more do I say??)

i received this edition from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. i had previously purchased the original edition.

This book of poetry reminded me that I actually like poetry. So many of them spoke to me, spoke to my heart. The idea to attach them to songs, and also to do remixes, is inspired. I love that aspect to these poems. I can't wait to get my hands on the new edition so I can tab all the poems I bookmarked in my digital copy!

If you're scared to read poetry because you feel like you don't "get" it. This is a great collection to start with. They're very readable. I think almost anyone can find a poem they can connect with in this collection. Maybe you'll even find your new favorite song.

It's a quick read at a little over 200 pages, and with a good share of those pages being only half utilized in terms of white space. The poetry itself is often thoughtful, if not terribly remarkable. And the handful of them on grief seemed to resonate the truest.

There was a large number of poems that read more like short, tangential essays. If one prefers more of a discernable cadence and rhythm to their poetry, this may prove a bit disappointing.

On the upside, the second half of this book is entirely made up of blackout poetry, using copies of the poems from the first half. These more experimentally formatted works essentially distill the original down to a single sentence or phrase. And while the results can sometimes sound reminiscent of a decently translated fortune cookie... the fact that they still relate to the original in some way deserves a lot of credit.

I loved some of these poems - and then didn’t care for many of the others. Probably more of a 3.5
