I think this is the feminist book all women should be reading right now. I respect this woman so much. Speaking her truth and carving an outlet for other women to speak their truths too. This book is heavy. I was blé to empathize with this woman and I saw parallels with the objectification of women just normally but emphasized in modeling. This book was a real story from someone who is more than just a body.

EmRata has this amazing ability to be succinct in her writing without cutting out emotion. Her words go straight to the heart and this collection of essays is a stellar debut.
EmRata speaks to her audience without any pretense - she makes you feel like you are sat together in her living room as she shares her most vulnerable experiences.

The world EmRata occupies is both foreign and yet so close to home. Like most women, she has been taught to use her looks to get ahead in life. But unlike most women, EmRata has had a peek behind the curtain. In My Body she tears the curtain away to show that the perks of money and fame still do not protect women from the violent, vulture-like men of the world.

My fave essays: Toxic, Buying my Body Back, My Son, Sun

This book has torn me. I had heard nothing but good things about it and had known very little about Emily Ratajkowski previously (it's true I swear) and was looking forward to a scathing account of the media and celebrity culture.

Instead what I found was a well written account of a naive young woman who was taken advantage of multiple times (both sexually and in business). What I couldn't move past was her lack of acknowledgement of her immense privilege and how other women in positions of vulnerability would be in a much worse position.

Very much should have read the trigger warnings before going in, but dang this is a raw, unrelenting look at the dark side of the modeling industry and the people she had to deal with along the way. This is on my list to reread in print, as the audiobook did make weird production choices that were jarring at times, but all in all read this, like now
