One of the most insightful and thought provoking books I’ve read in a long time. Simply amazing, a must read for everyone. Especially men!

Must have для любого Male

i see where people criticize the limitations but i think they might miss the point. emily explicitly says she’s not writing to give answers, just to explore. maybe people who haven’t experienced this level of sexualization and haven’t existed in the male gaze as some have won’t appreciate it as much. and that’s fine. but i did. and it hit home for me.

I’m not sure what the purpose of this book is beyond sharing her experience of her modelling career. I don’t know that there needs to be a purpose beyond that in fairness, but it fell a bit flat for me. It’s not quite an autobiography, but it’s more autobiography than thought provoking essay writing in my opinion. She has some interesting perspectives on feminism within a capitalist society, but I think most people could have guessed that the modelling industry and Hollywood are plagued with misogyny, men pulling the strings and abusing their power. That said, it’s harrowing to read just how expendable and commodified models are and the extent of abuse of power even with models as influential and successful as Emily.
