My Body is a memoir by Emily Ratajkowski about her body and how it propelled her to fame and career opportunities as a model/actress.
Ratajkowski explores the dichotomy of the power, money, and fame that her body gives her at the expense of being at the mercy of those who truly hold the reigns-- (white) (rich) men. Her body is simultaneously her greatest fortune and her prison. As she matures, the nuances of her predicament unfold and she fights to establish herself outside of the bounds of a sex object.
I understood why she wrote the book and the point she was trying to get across, but I remain unconvinced by the message. Though the underbelly of the industry was dark, I struggled to impart empathy to a woman who grew up an only child in Encinitas and does not need to worry about food, rent, and retirement like the rest of us plebes.

Emily is so raw in this memoir - I love hot and smart women, especially when they talk about the disgusting nature of patriarchy, specifically within Hollywood!!! She really does give us a summary of the 'cannon events' for many women. Those being:
- realizing it was, indeed, rape
- having a partner threaten to kill themselves as a form of manipulation
- the realization that women will be sexualized until 29, called crazy from 30 onwards if you don't have a child and then become invisible after 60
This was such a good book (IM SO fucKing MAD AT MEN U R RATS πππππππ)
