I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of essays; Emily’s writing is so captivating and powerful. I was so interested in the insight into how corrupted and against women the modeling industry really is. It feels so odd to say this considering how different mine and her statuses are in the world but I really felt like I could relate to the things she wrote, the pressure to be perfect and unseen and to have men’s validation. I felt a deep sense of sadness at how shallowly we view models and celebrities alike, assuming they have it all because of their looks and their positions in the world whereas in actual fact we all have the same experiences and emotions.

I’m really not doing this book the justice it deserves but I truly believe everyone would benefit from reading ‘My Body’. I feel as though i’ve gained a new perspective after finishing this book (I absolutely devoured it).

I hope Emily has gained what she needed from this book whether it was for people to know her story, whether it was to gain back control over her life and the experiences she’s had or whether it was something else entirely- but i really do wish her all the best.

This was a brilliant way to start of this years reading.

Emily Ratajkowski delivers a punch is this collection of essays that grapples with her appearance and the projections, opportunities and violence she has been exposed to because of it. Beauty comes with a price — not just the restricted eating and restrictive clothing she contours her body into fitting into — but the way in which the world reacts to a ‘Very Beautiful Girl’ and subsequently a ‘Very Beautiful Woman’.
There are a few really standout essays I loved from this collection: Buying Myself Back, Transactions and Releases come to mind immediately.
